Sugar-Coated
Peanuts
 
Sugar-coated peanuts are surprisingly easy to make, and always a popular family favourite! Here's our time-tested recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 cups of raw shelled peanuts (leave the skins on)
  • 1/2 cup water

Method:

  • Dissolve the sugar in the water in a saucepan over medium heat
  • When the sugar is dissolved, gradually add the peanuts, stirring frequently as you do so
  • Continue cooking over medium heating and stirring the mixture until the peanuts are completely sugared (ie coated with no syrup remaining)
  • Pour the mixture onto an ungreased baking tray and separate the peanuts with a fork
  • Bake at 300o F (about 150o C) for approximately half an hour, stirring every 10 minutes to ensure the mix bakes evenly throughout.

Tip: This recipe will make about 2.5 cups of sugared peanuts. For best results, store any unused nuts in an airtight container.
